"The master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his information and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence at whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he's always doing both." - unknown
The above quote really captures my approach to life. I keep it posted on my desk as a personal expression of who I am. It's not a technique I've learned, just something that has always been a part of my personality. Even as I work on completing this website in hopes of finding a better opportunity, I'm not sure if I'm working or playing.....to me it's both.
I love being in distribution and manufacturing environments and that is where the majority of my professional experience lies. I've deviated from this profession for short periods. I've tried my hand at sales, which I hated, and I've worked in marketing, which I found very interesting. However, my passion is with supply chain management and building and leading successful teams. There are so many moving parts to the process of taking a product from its inception to the client's hands, and the strategic aspects involved are both challenging and fun.
My education reflects my enjoyment of the various aspects of business. I have an Associate's degree in business, a Bachelor's degree in marketing, and I am six credit hours shy of obtaining a Master's degree in business management. Education and experience aside, my greatest strength and the number one reason that I have had success, is my ability to relate and communicate with those I work with. Education is great and it serves me every day, but without the ability to relate and communicate, the knowledge will never realize its full potential.
It would be a lopsided bio if I only spoke of my strengths. My greatest weakness is my lack of patience. I tend to expect things and people to be moving forward at all times, and sometimes my timeline is shorter than it should be. It is an area of my personality that I have to consciously be aware of and remind myself of. My golf game is a glaring example of this attribute, and while I know that Rome wasn't built in a day, did it really have to take years? All joking aside, I am as acutely aware of my weaknesses as I am my strengths.
My leadership approach is simple; I take the desired goal, discover the optimal way of achieving the goal, assess each team member's strengths and weaknesses, and then I utilize them in roles that will maximize and minimize those attributes respectively. By taking this approach towards leadership I am able to achieve the desired results for the organization while also giving individuals the best opportunity to achieve success, which builds confidence and momentum to obtain future goals. I would not describe myself as a Type-A leader by any stretch of the imagination, but instead someone that believes that team winning along with individual recognition when due, leads to success for all involved.
In conclusion, I would like for you to know that I am an intelligent decision-maker, with the drive and ability to help your company achieve its goals. My competitive nature coupled with my passion for excellence really defines who I am and how I approach my work and play, as if there was a difference.
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Jeffery M Brown
